July was one of the racier news months...

The Church finally gave the go-ahead for female bishops and David Cameron's cabinet reshuffle was more gender-friendly than we dared hope.

Meanwhile both private equity in general (by the unassuming Tamara Mellon) and Goldman Sachs (by a couple of former employees) received public slatings for behaving like boys clubs.

Gender quotas

Vince Cable came out in favour of quotas - views which we hold some sympathy for - but the Equality Commission gave a big "thumbs down" to the idea of all-female shortlists. Our best head-hunters have been making more positive noises recently about talented women but probably breathed a collective sigh of relief on the news.

Childcare news and the Care Act

The IPPR produced its final report on the childcare industry. It's long! And sadly misguided - supply side funding will only work if there is clarity on objectives and more money in the pot.

And the Care Act came into being, meaning that ALL carers are now recognised - about time too.

Family-friendly winners

It was great to see My Family Care clients Northern Trust, IBM, Barclays and Page Group storming to success at the ENEI awards.

And finally, interesting research from LBS's study of 600 businesses; flexible working will lead to changes in office culture meaning the "introverts" will rise to the top!
