Many people have a care commitment without realising they are carers. Picking up an elderly parent from the doctor's; a weekly shopping trip; or even the occasional "comfort" visit are all commitments that can collide with work.
Our Backup Eldercare service allows employees to book local backup domiciliary homecare across the UK for any adult dependent or elderly relative. We will arrange their legally required home assessment and then book the care needed
If the employee has an unexpected business commitment, or their dependent's needs change, they might not be able to provide the normal care needed. When work and eldercare commitments conflict, it can be very stressful. That's where we come in.
Worth Knowing – the correct term for what we do is "adult dependent care". In reality often what we do is about providing support for an employee's elderly parents. You will often see the terms dependent care, eldercare and homecare used interchangeably. Don't be confused! The service is just as applicable to a disabled teenage son or elderly parent.
Diversity – there can be as many carers in an organisation as working parents. Identifying them is the key. Offering Backup Dependent Care means you will start engaging with a significant and under-supported part of your employee base.
Engagement – individuals we help with our dependent care service are normally delighted and relieved that the employer offers this kind of support. They are very unlikely to leave for another employer who doesn't provide the same service.
Stress – combining eldercare and work commitments can be incredibly stressful. Backup dependent care provides practical hands on support exactly when the employee needs it most.
Working carers can access the 24/7 service online or over the phone. Usually there is a degree of forewarning but the service can be provided with as little as 30 minutes notice. After pre-registration a local domiciliary care agency will carry out a home assessment to assess the type of care that is needed. The typical process is:
We're unique in being able to offer backup dependent care in the UK. The service was developed with IBM's Work Life Balance Fund and has since helped over 1,000 working carers in situations where no help was previously available.
All our clients have one thing in common: a commitment to helping their staff manage their care responsibilities. We already work with a variety of different clients, including the Met Police, HMRC, several of The Times 100 Best Companies, and many of the leading banks and professional firms.
