P&G: Setting the gold standard in family friendly working
P&G is recognised worldwide as a leading multinational: it is one of the world's top ten businesses in terms of market capitalisation, operating in 140 countries and distributing to more than 180.
It is recognised by Fortune as one of the world's most admired companies; and is a consistent top ten winner in the Working Mother Awards.
My Family Care talked to Sandra Croser, P&G HR Manager to understand how P&G achieves this, the issues of the moment and what future challenges demographic changes will bring.
Procter & Gamble company demographics in the UK
In the UK, the workforce is split almost exactly 50:50 male to female.
P&G's employee base is concentrated around the 30 to 50 age range with over 65% of all employees falling into this bracket. These are exactly the people most likely to be parents of young children and also to have adult dependents.
Culture and principles
As an employer of choice, P&G has led the way in embracing and responding to the needs of its working parents and carers. Since P&G's inception more than 150 years ago, it has operated by a set of internal core values that are fundamental to everything it does. These include:
- Respect is shown to ALL employees
- The interests of the company and the individual are inseparable
- Mutual interdependency is a way of life
