How does working flexibly work for parents and carers?
My Family Care is surveying 40,000 working parents & carers in collaboration with The Fatherhood Institute and Daycare Trust
We're looking at how parents and carers currently work, the degree of flexibility they have (and need given their personal circumstances) and what could be done to make it work better for both employee and employer.
We'll be publishing the results in the autumn through our newsletter and webinar programme. Please contact us to let us know if you'd like to see the results.

Flexible working research
A significant amount of research has been conducted on the subject of flexible working. However, most of the research has been conducted with employers, not employees.
For working parents and carers, flexible working (in some form) is arguably the most important way an employer can support them to combine work+family effectively.
Flexible working can be used to describe a wide variety of working patterns, from occasional home working to working in term time only and everything in between. It's a complex area with myriad different factors involved including varying individual domestic situations, the mix of work and home responsibilities, and the quality, quantity and type of additional care support in place.
Combining work and family
The purpose of the survey is to provide a more intimate picture of the challenges of combining work and family, to understand exactly how flexible working can support the needs of both employer and employee alike and what can be done to make it work better.
Working parents and carers will be surveyed using an online questionnaire. The results will be published results in the autumn.
Over 40,000 parents and carers will be surveyed from the following sources:
- Individual parents and carers registered with our Backup Care services
- Employees from a selection of My Family Care corporate clients include banks, professional firms and multi-nationals
- Parents from My Family Care's childcare businesses Tinies Childcare and NannyShare.co.uk
- Additional parents and carers from The Fatherhood Institute
and the Daycare Trust
